Popular since the 19th century, the Siamese cat breed originated in Thailand (formerly known as the Siamese). Siamese has been the parent breed for the Oriental Shorthair, Sphynx and Himalayan. Most Siamese cats have distinct markings called "points" that are areas of pigmentation on their face, ears, feet and tail. There are two types of Siamese cats, one with an "apple"-shaped head and a thick body, and the other with a large head and a thin body.
